Civil War Journeys offers the most comprehensive, interpretive historical tours of the battlefields made famous by the soldiers who wore the blue and gray. Our three-day tours feature nationally known historians who have decades of experience leading and guiding tour groups. In addition, each of our tours is designed to take you to well known battlefield landmarks but also includes sites unique and obscure even to seasoned battlefield visitors. Finally, a hallmark of our tours is a colorized tactical map packet produced on high quality glossy stock to enhance the appearance of the maps.
Beginning with our tours in 2019, each tour participant will receive a digital version of the paper map packet along with digitized photographs of the generals associated with the tour or pertinent photographs of the battlefield or important landmarks. These digitized files can be used with peripheral devices such as ipads or cell phones. In some instances, too, we will utilize mobile battlefield apps along with animated maps and aerial maps of the various battlefields.
Along with our adoption of new technology to enhance the tour experience we also recognize the importance of utilizing professional historians to guide our tour groups. Leading Civil War historians such as Bob Krick, Jeff Wert, Richard McMurry, Steve Davis, Dennis Frye, Scott Hartwig along with Jim Hessler are scheduled to lead our tour groups in 2019. Participating in our tours affords you the opportunity to learn about the events of the Civil War from the foremost experts and offers you the chance to interact with them and ask questions – which in some instances you’ve wanted to ask and receive an answer for years!
Each of our tours is based on extensive research and designed to maximize the tour experience for all participants. Our tours, developed and modified over the course of fifteen years, reflect our experience in historical travel and afford participants a unique opportunity to explore the battlefields and the events within the structure of a signature tour experience. Once you’ve participated in one of our tours you’ll recognize our commitment to providing a professional tour experience designed to enhance your understanding of the historical events within a group led by the foremost historians writing and teaching about the American Civil War. Please join us in 2019 and travel back in time to explore the battlefields and experience new interpretations of the events beginning at Fort Sumter and ending at Appomattox.
